TOTAL 2025 HEART CLAIMS PAID TO AGE & GENDER GROUPS

According to the New Zealand Heart Foundation, every 90 minutes, heart disease takes the life of a loved one in New Zealand. 2 That’s almost 7,000 mums, dads, siblings, and grandparents – many of them lost far too soon. Heart disease has been identified as one of the five major non-communicable diseases, including cancer, diabetes, respiratory disease and poor mental health, that cause over 90% of deaths in Aotearoa New Zealand, as unpacked in our AIA 5590+ report. Heart disease can affect anyone, anywhere, at any time. Our 2025 claims data reveals male customers aged between 40 and 69 are most affected by heart disease. Men are significantly more impacted by heart disease than women. All medical claims costs are outpacing CPI inflation, but heart claims face some of the steepest increases. Treatment types such as scans, procedures and hospital stays are notably more expensive for heart-related conditions. 3
